Message from the President of Vidir Biomass Inc to the residents of the Town of Morris:
I understand that on several occasions, during the testing of our new Biomass Energy System, wheat straw smoke has drifted into town. On behalf of our team, I am apologizing for any inconvenience that this may have caused. As a token of appreciation for your understanding, I'd like to offer you a choice of several small gifts. Please come into our plant for a tour during one of the many tour times we offer. All participants of the tour will receive a gift. Please call 746-8833 to book your time and date.
I'd like the opportunity to tell you about this leading edge technology, and what it can do for you and the environment. Straw is sequestered solar energy. Farmers use straw for various animal-bedding purposes. Not all straw is used that way, and a lot of straw is burned in the field creating clean air issues due to incomplete combustion in the field and smoke particulates drifting miles through the atmosphere.
Vidir Biomass Energy System Technologies (BEST) has been able to develop a patent-able close-coupled biomass fired heating system that burns the straw in a 2-stage combustor, delivering clean CO2 neutral energy to users. Our dream is to combine our system with an electric power generator to deliver distributed community power. This becomes particularly important during winter power outages. When this system is fully operational, it can heat our plant plus 200 homes and generate enough power to keep the hospital, personal care home, and community centre operational 24/7.
BEST is the solution to the world's greenhouse gas environmental issues. We say to the government - "Take the 1 tonne challenge” and encourage every community to go real green by using fully renewable solar energy in the form of biomass to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to ZERO.
We have spent a significant amount to develop this system to the stage it is at. We have a time constraint to meet the government's REDI program deadline. We need to run the system and have an independent lab monitor the results this Friday and Saturday, to meet the deadline. We really appreciate your understanding. We will do everything we can to keep offensive output under control. If you have allergy issues, please come to us for hospital masks, so you are prepared, should the system not fire correctly prior to that.
Once the system is fully functional, the gas output will be odourless and colourless steam. Please see the pictures of the similar system in operation at our Arborg plant. We have had many environmental tests done by independent labs, and the results show our system produces less than 10% of the allowable amount of emissions.
We work closely with Dr Bibeau at the University of Manitoba, Manitoba Rural Adaptation Council, MANSEA, and all regulatory and environmental agencies.
Wheat straw smoke is emitted only during the initial start-up phase, when the system is cold. This smoke is totally organic and naturally harmless. We have installed cyclonic cleaners into the exhaust stream to reduce particulate emissions. We have bought and are implementing a pre-heater to preheat the system with natural gas or propane. This will reduce start-up emissions. If there are any further occurrences of offensive smoke output after Feb 1, 07, we will install a biomass filter that will entirely eliminate all particulate and malodorous output.
With your understanding and patience, this system will become the system of the future, and take us all into a brighter, cleaner tomorrow, with naturally clean air. And you can be proud to be a part of this magnificent achievement. Please check our website for more information and links at www.vidirbiomass.com. Talk to any member of our team, including, Brian, Eric, Anan, Abe, Joyce, Rhonda, and Don. I look forward to meeting you on tour!
